After 50 years in business in Granite City, Dempsey Adams Carstar and Granite City Glass have changed hands.

The auto body repair business and glass company were recently purchased by Demway LLC.

The new owners promis to continue to operate as it has been. And that should be easy considering that two of the new owners have strong ties to the business.

One of the principals of Demway is Julie Dempsey, the daughter of Jack Dempsey, who in 1955 started the business with his late partner, Don Adams.

The other principal is Rob Waymire, who has been the general manager of Dempsey Adams for the past four years.

Waymire, who has a bachelors degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and who underwent production management training with Carstar in Kansas City, previously worked in the computer field with Chemetco Inc. and the Knowledge-Based Services Corp.

Julie Dempsey, who has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Lindenwood College and a master's degree in counseling from University of Missouri-St. Louis, worked in the financial field before joining Dempsey Adams in 2003. Both Dempsey and Waymire were chosen by Southwestern Madison County Chamber of Commerce as two of the 65 "Future Leaders of Tomorrow."
